Promoting web activism to prevent gender based violence

Around 20 young activists gathered on November 30th in the Center for Cultural and Media Decontamination in Sarajevo on the workshop about the usage of ICT tools with purpose of ending the violence against women. The main subject was the map for documenting violence against women that has been translated and adapted to our language by the Oneworld Platform for South East Europe Foundation.

The Map is a part of the global initiative and appeal to document and gather testimony on gender based violence, that is, to make the invisible visible. The participants had the opportunity to learn how to use the map and document the cases of gender-based violence that they are familiar with, regardless of whether they come from their close environment or have learnt about them from media reports. This was also an occasion to present the Be Safe report which gives a lot of practical counseling on how to use ITC safely.

The workshop was delivered within the campaign Take back the Tech that invites girls and women to take control over technology in order to tell their stories, stories about violence that women and girls worldwide are confronted with.

The implementation of the workshop was supported by the Association for Progressive Communications, UNV programme in BiH and UN Women BiH.
