Associations Oppose Risky Ombla Power Station Project

Croatian and international environmental associations demanded in an open letter to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), signed by more than 30 associations, to deny the €123 million loan to finance the construction of Ombla Hydropower Station near Dobrovnik. The loan application will be reviewed and discussed at the EBRD Board meeting scheduled for November 8, 2011.

AlbTelecom Supports Establishment of PROTIK Centre

Albtelecom supports the establishment of Resource and Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology ("PROTIK"). The center is a collaboration between public and private partners, the Government of Albania, the Albanian American Foundation for Development (AADF), USAID, Albania Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Cisco and is scheduled to begin operation in spring next year.

Resolute NO to the Restart of the Veles Lead and Zinc Mill

The representatives of the Green Coalition from Veles, lead by the mayor of Veles Goran Petrov, presented their decisive and resolute “NO” to the initiative to reopen production at the Veles Lead and Zinc Mill to the representatives of Metrudchem Company, the new owner of the metallurgy company, in the failed attempt to organize a debate on the issue on October 27.

Enough Homophobia! Campaign Launched

Last week, the Centre for LGBT Equality (Queer Zagreb, Zagreb Pride and LORI), in cooperation with the Centre for Peace Studies, launched the big anti-homophobia campaign “Enough with the Homophobia”, with participation of persons from public and social life and members of LGBT population in Croatia. The campaign will be concluded on November 24, 2011.
