Civil Society in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Seeking the Way Forward report sketches out some of the key characteristics of and challenges facing the civil society sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This report underscores the key role that volunteers and individual citizens play in the overall functioning and effectiveness of civil society organizations and civil society in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As importantly, it highlights how volunteers and volunteering offer a means to increase social trust and enhance social inclusion and reconciliation in the country.

Promoting web activism to prevent gender based violence

Around 20 young activists gathered on November 30th in the Center for Cultural and Media Decontamination in Sarajevo on the workshop about the usage of ICT tools with purpose of ending the violence against women. The main subject was the map for documenting violence against women that has been translated and adapted to our language by the Oneworld Platform for South East Europe Foundation.

Marked annually on December 5th, International Volunteer Day (IVD) is the day designated by the United Nations to recognize, celebrate and promote volunteers and the contributions they make locally, nationally and internationally. IVD was established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 40/212 on 17 December 1985.

Looking for work? Why not volunteer - help yourself while helping others

Several years ago, Vesna Vukmirovic (28) from Doboj faced the same problem that young people throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina continue to struggle with: the ever-increasing unemployment in the country, and shrinking of an already narrow job market for young people. However, volunteering with a local NGO helped Vesna to achieve two personal goals: to secure a job in the field of social protection and contribute towards positive change in her local community.

UN Volunteers join Konjic volunteers to build better communities

On Tuesday, 20th September, about 40 members of the United Nations Volunteers programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina joined volunteers in the southern town of Konjic to put the final touch on the beautification of children’s playground.
