UNV in BiH

The UNV programme in BiH (UNV BiH) was established in 1996. Since 1996, UNV BiH has mobilized over 970 international and 570 national UNV volunteers. From 1997 to 1999, UNV BiH was among the largest of UNV's operations in the world. From 1999 to 2004, 110 national UNV volunteers were involved in the Multi-sectoral Assistance to War-affected Populations in Bosnia and Herzegovina project, supporting the reintegration of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). UNV volunteers have been placed in various international and national organizations, institutions and civil society organizations.

With the aim to provide an even more strategic and coordinated approach and identify joint programming initiatives the UN Country Team established in 2006 a Working Group on Youth  - chaired by the UNV Programme Officer and further composed by UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, ILO, WHO IOM and World Bank

Celebrating International Volunteer Day
Each year on 5 December, International Volunteer Day (IVD) is celebrated in Bosnia and Herzegovina (and around the world). Together with other volunteer-involving and volunteer-sending organizations, local voluntary organizations, NGO’s and government agencies, UNV volunteers organize events to commemorate the day.  IVD is usually celebrated in different parts of the country under a particular theme. The commemoration can take place over a three to four day period and involves different activities. As a UNV volunteer (and with your supervisor’s approval) we hope you will participate in and contribute to IVD.
