UNV programme in BiH has started a series of presentations and discussions on volunteerism and youth opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. First presentations took place at the University of Banja Luka (Oct 14) and University of Zenica (Oct 21), the overall plan includes eight towns in BiH. The main target group of the discussions are students of universities and high schools.
The purpose of the project is threefold: first, to provide young people with basic information on volunteering options in BiH and abroad; second, to inspire them about different forms of civic engagement; and third, to hear about their experiences with volunteerism.
„For me, volunteering in Kenya and working with youngsters in an association for voluntary activities home in the Czech Republic were crucial experiences in my life, which have influenced to a great extent what I do now,“ says Robin Ujfalusi from United Nations Volunteers. „We would like to share this experience with young people in BiH, give them a broader picture of different volunteer options and also hear their opinions.“
The current activity is also connected with promoting the creation of a legally enabling environment for volunteering in BiH. Last year, the Law on Volunteerism was adopted in Republika Srpska. Earlier this year, the Formal Policy Working Group for the development and promotion of the Law on Volunteerism in FBiH was established. The Group is chaired by UNV and composed of international and national NGO partners. It will soon present the Draft of the Law on Volunteerism to the Youth Commission of the BiH Parliament.
